A suspect in a Friday evening homicide in rural Harvard has been arrested while receiving medical treatment, authorities said.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP), troopers served an arrest warrant Sunday for Toby Gray, 39, who is being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Bryan Health West Campus in Lincoln.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office had requested NSP assistance around 8:30 p.m. Friday after deputies responded to a 911 call reporting threats at a residence on Road 322. Upon arrival, they found Heather Gray, 35, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Toby Gray was also found with a self-inflicted wound.
Investigators determined Gray entered the home and shot his wife, who had been planning a divorce, before turning the gun on himself. Three young children were in the home at the time but were unharmed and placed in protective custody with family.
Gray was initially transported to Aurora Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to Lincoln. He has been arrested for first-degree homicide and use of a weapon to commit a felony. His custody has now been transferred to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
