Hartland, VT – A 17-year-old from Hartland was cited after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop and crashing through a barn along Route 5 North on December 11, according to the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputy Buchanan attempted to pull over a vehicle reportedly traveling 60 mph in a 35 mph zone near the post office around 4:23 p.m. The department said the driver accelerated upon seeing the deputy, prompting a brief police chase northbound.

According to officials, the vehicle passed multiple cars near Whites’ Dairy before the deputy lost sight of it. Moments later, the car was found crashed through a barn at 226 Route 5 North.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported by the Windsor Fire Department to Mount Ascutney Hospital. Authorities cited the juvenile for gross negligent operation and attempting to elude before releasing them to their parents.

Sheriff Ryan Palmer thanked Windsor Police, Windsor Fire, Hartland Fire, and Legendary Towing for their assistance. The case will be heard in Windsor court, with dates pending confirmation.
