Hartland, VT – Two Hartland residents were taken into custody Friday morning after a vehicle allegedly struck gas pumps at Mikes Mobile on Route 5 and the driver fled the scene, according to the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Ryan Palmer and Sgt. Keefe responded around 8:30 a.m. Friday, December 26, after reports that Morgan Bertholdt, 25, had hit gas pumps, causing damage before leaving her vehicle behind and fleeing on foot. Deputies said Bertholdt was later located and cited for leaving the scene of an accident and negligent operation.

A companion, Jason Hammond, 31, was also detained and found to be wanted on an extraditable warrant from New Hampshire. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Hammond allegedly provided false information to law enforcement and was also charged with possession of heroin.

Hammond was arraigned the same day and is currently held at the Southern State Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail.

The Windsor County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation. No injuries were reported in the incident.
