Harris County, TX – A Harris County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was injured Thursday evening while helping deputies arrest a wanted suspect who allegedly tried to drown the police dog during a foot pursuit.

According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, deputies were attempting to locate 41-year-old Bryan Crofton, wanted on multiple felony warrants, in the 14200 block of Lockwood Drive. Crofton reportedly crashed his vehicle into a ditch and fled toward a wooded pond area.

Deputy Almeida and K-9 Ghost pursued Crofton, who allegedly attempted to drown the dog during the struggle. K-9 Ghost successfully bit Crofton before deputies entered the water to detain him.

Crofton was taken to a hospital for a bite injury and later transported to jail. K-9 Ghost received immediate veterinary care for precautionary reasons and is expected to recover, officials said. No deputies were injured.

Authorities said Crofton had active warrants for Injury to a Child and Interfering with 911 Services. He now faces additional charges, including Evading Arrest and Interfering with a Service Animal.

Sheriff Gonzalez shared that K-9 Ghost remains in stable condition and thanked the community for their support.
