Harris County, TX – Two people have been charged with murder in connection with a fatal New Year’s Day stabbing in East Harris County that left one man dead.
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, homicide detectives have charged Jorge Camargo (44) and MonYka Figueroa-Lopez (32) with murder following the death of Carlton Lewis (38).
Investigators say the incident began when Lewis knocked on a friend’s apartment door at 555 Normandy. Camargo allegedly confronted Lewis about why he was there, leading to a fight in which Camargo reportedly began stabbing him. Figueroa-Lopez allegedly struck Lewis with a pipe during the altercation.
Authorities said Lewis fled the scene but was later found unresponsive with multiple stab wounds outside a nearby apartment complex at 12603 Woodforest Blvd. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives are still investigating why Lewis was at the apartment. Records show he may have previously lived at the Normandy location.
Camargo and Figueroa-Lopez were arrested by the Violent Criminals Apprehension Team (VCAT) and Baytown Police Department. Both were booked into the Harris County Jail.
Initial reports suggested Lewis may have suffered gunshot wounds, but investigators later confirmed all injuries were from stabbing.
