Harris County, TX – Deputies in Atascocita faced a dangerous situation Tuesday morning when an armed man allegedly opened fire before being taken into custody.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the incident occurred in the early hours of September 23 near the 18600 block of Atlantic Drive. Deputies said the suspect, identified as 47-year-old Kenyon Levor Coleman, was hiding in the woods armed with a rifle. When deputies approached, they were allegedly met with gunfire, though no one was injured.
Authorities reported Coleman fled deeper into the woods after the initial exchange. HCSO Air Operations used a thermal camera to locate him and guided ground units and a K9 team to his location. After a short standoff, Coleman allegedly surrendered and was taken safely into custody. Deputies recovered a rifle and ammunition at the scene.
Officials credited the coordinated response between air and ground units for preventing injuries. “Air and ground teamwork kept everyone safe and got a very dangerous suspect into custody without further incident,” HCSO Air Operations stated.
Coleman’s charges have not yet been announced.
