Edgewood, MD – A Christmas Day shooting in Edgewood has led to an arrest, according to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, after a man was seriously injured during a late-night incident outside a residential court.
According to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night, December 25, to the 1600 block of Candlewood Court for reports of a shooting. When deputies arrived, they found 32-year-old Marquis Gaskins suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Deputies immediately began life-saving efforts until medics arrived. Gaskins was later flown by Maryland State Police Aviation Command to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery. Authorities said he is currently listed in stable condition.
Investigators determined the shooting occurred outside in the 1700 block of Dearwood Court. Through community assistance and surveillance footage, deputies identified a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.
At approximately 12:00 a.m. Friday, December 26, deputies located the vehicle near Conowingo Road and the Bel Air Bypass and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 37-year-old Kenneth King Jr., was allegedly wearing clothing consistent with an individual captured in video surveillance related to the shooting.
During the stop, deputies observed a handgun inside the vehicle that matched the description of a firearm seen in the video. King was taken into custody without incident.
Detectives later executed multiple search and seizure warrants, recovering a loaded 9mm handgun and several cell phones. The investigation is being handled by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, with assistance from the Forensic Services Unit.
While the motive remains under investigation, authorities believe all parties involved knew each other and that the shooting was not random.
King was transported to the Harford County Detention Center and charged with attempted murder, assault, and related handgun offenses. After an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner, he is being held without bond.
