Harding-Birch Lakes, Alaska – A magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck just north-northwest of Harding-Birch Lakes at 2:19 p.m. UTC Thursday, producing light shaking in parts of Interior Alaska within seconds of impact.

According to the Alaska Earthquake Center, the quake hit at a depth of 5.0 kilometers, about 9 kilometers from Harding-Birch Lakes, and was automatically recorded with no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The agency’s early data shows the event remained shallow, which can increase the chance of it being felt near the epicenter.

Residents along the Richardson Highway corridor and in nearby rural areas may have noticed a brief jolt or rumble, especially in quiet indoor settings. Small quakes of this size rarely cause structural issues but can rattle windows and shift unsecured items.

No road closures or infrastructure impacts have been reported, and utility providers have not indicated any service disruptions. Still, emergency officials advise residents to secure loose household items and review earthquake safety plans, particularly in seismically active regions of Alaska.

Seismic activity remains common across Interior Alaska, and monitoring continues. Additional updates or revised data could be released as sensors finalize readings.
