Louisville, KY – The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued a Freeze Warning for much of central and southern Kentucky and southern Indiana, effective from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Friday (1–8 a.m. CDT). Several surrounding counties, including Bowling Green, Glasgow, and Franklin, are under a Frost Advisory for the same period.

Forecasters say temperatures will fall as low as 29°F across parts of the Bluegrass and Ohio River regions, with frost expected even where readings remain slightly above freezing. The warning covers major cities such as Louisville, Lexington, Elizabethtown, Frankfort, and Richmond, while the advisory extends to south-central Kentucky counties including Warren, Barren, and Monroe.

According to the NWS, these cold temperatures could kill sensitive vegetation and damage unprotected plumbing. Residents are urged to cover plants, disconnect garden hoses, and drain sprinkler systems ahead of the cold snap.

This marks one of the coldest nights so far this fall and could effectively end the growing season across most of Kentucky. Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly over the weekend with highs returning to the 50s and 60s by Sunday.
