Hanford, CA – A Pacific storm system will approach the California coast by midweek, bringing the potential for rain across the Central Valley and foothills and snow in the Sierra Nevada, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford.
Precipitation chances will increase beginning late Tuesday into Wednesday, with the northern portions of the San Joaquin Valley—including Merced, Madera, and Yosemite Valley—most likely to see measurable rainfall. Forecasters estimate a 40% to 50% chance of at least a quarter inch of rain over a 24-hour period ending at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Snowfall is possible in the higher Sierra elevations, while the valley floor remains cool and damp under cloudy skies. Locations farther south, including Hanford and Bakersfield, are expected to see lower rain probabilities around 10–20%.
Travelers heading north or into the mountains should monitor conditions closely as the storm approaches, as slick roads and reduced visibility are possible midweek.
