HANFORD, Calif. – A blanket of dense fog lies low across California’s Central Valley this morning, swallowing headlights and blurring the horizon from Hanford to Merced. The still air and hazy chill make for a quiet but hazardous start along Highway 99 and I-5, where visibility has dropped to a quarter mile or less.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m. PST for much of the southern and western San Joaquin Valley — including Fresno, Kings, and Madera counties. Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles, especially near Corcoran, Lemoore, and Los Banos, where the fog is thickest.

By late morning, sunshine should burn through the haze, revealing a bright, dry stretch of late-fall warmth. Highs will climb toward 80°F today and Monday, staying unusually mild for November. The warm, stable pattern continues into Veterans Day, making it ideal for parades, outdoor ceremonies, or early holiday travel plans.

Midweek, however, a pattern shift is coming. Rain chances increase late Wednesday through Friday as Pacific moisture reaches inland California. While totals look light at this stage, models hint that cooler, wetter weather may settle in before Thanksgiving week, signaling an early winter pattern change.

For now, the biggest hazard remains this morning’s fog — slow and steady driving will be key for a safe start to the week.
