Hancock County, ME – Maine State Police are investigating the death of a 70-year-old man found Tuesday afternoon in a remote bog area of northern Hancock County.
According to Maine State Police, troopers from the Northern Field Troop responded around 3:32 p.m. on October 28 to the 32000 Road in Township 41, just off Stud Mill Road, for a report of an unattended death.
The deceased, identified as David Bridges of Kennebunk, was located in a bog near the roadway. Investigators said Bridges appeared to have been fur trapping in the area at the time of his death.
Authorities noted that the death does not appear suspicious, though the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta will determine the official cause and manner of death.
The Maine Warden Service assisted state police with the investigation due to the rural and difficult terrain. Officials have not released additional details regarding how long Bridges had been in the area or when he was last seen.
Residents and travelers near Township 41 are not believed to be at risk, police said.
