Hampton, NH – A multi-vehicle crash at the Hampton Side Toll Plaza left one driver seriously injured Monday afternoon, briefly shutting down ramps connecting Route 101 and Interstate 95, according to New Hampshire State Police.
According to state police, troopers from the Troop A barracks responded around 3:55 p.m. Monday, January 12, to reports of a crash at the Hampton Side Toll Plaza, a key connector between I-95 and Route 101 in Rockingham County.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Keith Wheeler, 59, of Exeter, crossed into oncoming traffic at the toll plaza and struck a 2024 Subaru Impreza driven by Charlie Moschetto, 55, of Methuen, Massachusetts. After that initial impact, the Chevrolet continued into opposing lanes and collided head-on with a 2018 Toyota Corolla driven by Tyler Quintal, 27, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts.
Police said Quintal suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a regional hospital for treatment. Wheeler sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Moschetto was not injured in the crash.
As a result of the collision, the ramps from Route 101 to the Hampton Side Toll Plaza were closed for approximately 30 minutes while emergency crews worked the scene and two of the three vehicles were towed.
Wheeler was charged with negligent operation, according to state police, and is scheduled to appear in Hampton District Court on Thursday, March 19, 2026. All charges are allegations, and the case remains under investigation.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Hampton Police Department and Hampton Fire Department. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information to contact Trooper Dylan Sandstrom.
