Hampshire County, WV – An arrest has been made in the long-running case of a Hampshire County woman who was reported missing in 2020, according to authorities, marking a major development in a years-long investigation.

According to the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office, Daniel L. Wright, 35, has been arrested and charged with the murder of Kristy M. Plumley, who was reported missing by family members in November 2020.

Investigators said skeletal remains believed to be Plumley’s were discovered on the Clifford Hollow Bridge along Corridor H in Hardy County on December 18, 2022. The remains were recovered by the Hardy County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the West Virginia State Police. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, officials said confirmation of identity was not made until January 2025, when forensic testing verified the remains belonged to Plumley.

Authorities stated that Wright and Plumley had been involved in an on-and-off relationship prior to her disappearance. A key break in the case occurred after a witness came forward following an unrelated incident on December 23, 2025, leading investigators to identify and interview additional witnesses.

Based on those interviews and a subsequent interview with Wright, investigators believe Wright allegedly strangled Plumley during an altercation and later disposed of her body by throwing it over the bridge along Corridor H.

The investigation was led by the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, with support from multiple agencies. Officials said countless hours of investigative work contributed to the arrest, and the case remains ongoing.
