Hamilton County, IN – Residents across Hamilton County may hear emergency sirens sounding at 11 a.m. Friday, but officials say there is no need to take action. The sirens are part of a regularly scheduled weekly test.
According to Hamilton County Emergency Management, the agency will conduct its regular Friday siren test at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 28. Officials emphasized that the activation is only a test and does not indicate an active emergency.
The weekly testing schedule runs each Friday from early spring through the end of October. The routine activations help ensure the outdoor warning system is functioning and ready to notify the public when severe weather or another emergency threatens the area.
For residents of Hamilton County communities in the Indianapolis metropolitan area, the 11 a.m. activation may be noticeable outdoors and in locations close to a warning siren.
No action is required during today’s scheduled test. Residents who hear sirens at other times, however, should avoid assuming they are part of a test and should check trusted local emergency information for details.
Outdoor warning sirens are primarily designed to warn people who are outside. During an actual warning, residents should seek additional information through official emergency notifications, local authorities or trusted weather sources.
Hamilton County Emergency Management’s announcement specifically identifies today’s activation as its normal Friday test.
Regular testing is expected to continue on Fridays through the end of October.
