FORT WAYNE, IN – A Halloween forecast packed with high winds and rain is set to impact northern Indiana today, potentially causing hazardous travel conditions, especially along I-69 and other major roadways. Residents across the region should brace for wind gusts reaching 45 mph, with scattered showers that could disrupt outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), northern Indiana will experience gusty winds from 30 to 40 mph, with occasional spikes to 45 mph, particularly around Fort Wayne and South Bend. These windy conditions, coupled with rain, could lead to slippery roads and decreased visibility for drivers and trick-or-treaters. The NWS advises motorists to exercise caution on Halloween night, especially in open or rural areas where winds may intensify.

Today’s high will reach the upper 60s to low 70s, with cooler and drier conditions forecasted for Friday. Temperatures are expected to drop to around 56°F by Friday, offering a sunny and mild start to the weekend. Friday night will bring clear skies, with lows near 34°F.

Looking ahead, Saturday will be sunny with a high near 61°F, and calm winds making for ideal outdoor conditions. However, by Sunday afternoon, showers are expected to return, with a 70% chance of rain and highs around 60°F. Showers will likely continue into Monday, with another high of 72°F and an 80% chance of precipitation, potentially impacting morning commuters.

For those out celebrating Halloween, ensure costumes are secured and visible, and consider rescheduling outdoor activities to avoid the strongest winds. Drivers should remain alert, as sudden gusts could make driving more challenging.
