Hall County, GA – Hall County officials are using a new video project to warn students about the dangers and consequences of making fake or threatening statements toward schools.
According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the video—titled “Making School Threats: The Dangers and Consequences of Hoax Threats Against a School”—was created in partnership with the Hall County School District to help deter hoax threats and promote reporting suspicious behavior.
“Ideally, we would love to eliminate hoax threats altogether, but we know that’s not realistic,” said Sheriff Gerald Couch. “My hope is that any student thinking about making a threat against a school—even as a joke—will see this and have a change of heart.”
The release comes just days after a local high school student allegedly made threats and was later arrested. Officials say the case underscored the importance of educating students about the seriousness of such actions.
“Threats against schools—real or imagined—cause fear, interrupt learning, and have serious consequences,” said Hall County School District Superintendent Will Schofield. “We’re thankful to the Sheriff’s Office for helping us protect the safety and peace of our schools.”
The nine-minute video includes input from law enforcement, district leaders, and court officials, with local students taking part in production. Hall County schools are encouraged to use it as a classroom teaching tool.
“This project opens the door for conversations about school safety,” Sheriff Couch added.
