Baltimore, Maryland – Mountain snow showers and a possible rain/snow mix near I-68 and US-50 could impact travel Wednesday as a warm front lifts north across the region.

According to the US National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, a few mountain snow showers are possible this morning before winds decrease and skies gradually clear. High temperatures Tuesday are expected to reach the mid-30s to low 40s outside the mountains.

By tonight into Wednesday, a warm front will move through the area, bringing more snow to higher elevations and a potential rain/snow mix north of Interstate 70 and along US-50. Mountain communities along I-68 near Cumberland and areas west toward Garrett County could see additional snowfall.

Outside the mountains, precipitation is more likely to fall as rain as temperatures rise. Highs Wednesday are forecast in the upper 40s to upper 50s across lower elevations, including Frederick and Washington.

More widespread rainfall is expected by Thursday, with highs ranging from the low 40s to mid-50s regionwide.

Travel impacts Wednesday morning may be most noticeable in higher terrain, where brief snow accumulation or slick spots are possible. Major corridors including I-68, I-70, I-66, and US-50 could experience wet or slippery conditions depending on elevation and surface temperatures.

The midweek transition may affect commuters traveling between mountain and metro areas.

Officials advise monitoring updated forecasts as small temperature changes could alter precipitation type in higher elevations.
