Morris, IL – A shooting at Canal Port Plaza in Morris, Illinois, has left one man dead and another hospitalized. The incident occurred around noon on Monday, according to the Morris Police Department. Grundy County Dispatch received a call at approximately 12:05 PM from a concerned family member in Southern Illinois, worried about the wellbeing of a relative in Morris. Shortly after, a report of gunshots was received, prompting officers to respond to the scene at Illinois Avenue and Fulton Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two male subjects suffering from gunshot wounds. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to Morris Hospital and subsequently transferred to another area hospital. The weapon used in the incident was recovered at the scene.
According to the police, the incident has been classified as a domestic dispute. Both individuals involved are from outside the local area, and no other parties were involved. Police have confirmed that this was an isolated incident, posing no threat to the community.
Illinois Avenue remains closed between Division Street and Wauponsee Street as the Morris Police Department and Illinois State Police crime lab continue their investigation and process the scene.
