Tampa, FL – Afternoon thunderstorms and muggy conditions are expected to linger across Tampa Bay through early next week, raising the risk of localized flooding and delays for weekend events.

According to the National Weather Service Tampa Bay office, isolated storms may begin Friday afternoon, with stronger chances arriving Saturday into Sunday. Rain coverage increases to 40 percent by Sunday, particularly along I-75 and I-275, where downpours could slow traffic during evening commutes. Forecasters note gusty winds near storms may exceed 25 mph.

Saturday brings a high near 88 degrees, with scattered showers possible before dawn, then another round in the afternoon. “We expect periodic breaks of sunshine, but any storm that develops will be capable of brief heavy rain,” the NWS stated. By Sunday night, thunderstorm chances rise again, with conditions staying warm and humid overnight.

Storm chances continue into Monday, with afternoon highs near 90. East winds will keep the Gulf Coast breezy, which may complicate small craft operations along Tampa Bay waters. Drivers are urged to watch for ponding on roads during heavier downpours.

Residents should plan flexible outdoor schedules, secure lightweight items that could blow around in gusts, and stay weather-aware through mobile alerts. Pets and plants should be protected from late-day downpours, and commuters should allow extra time when storms flare up.
