Houston, Texas – A warmer and wetter-than-normal weather pattern is favored across the Gulf Coast from Jan. 7 through Jan. 11, according to the latest outlook from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center.

The 6–10 day temperature outlook shows above-normal temperatures likely from southeast Texas through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Probabilities favor mild conditions across the entire Gulf Coast, with daytime highs expected to remain well above early January averages.

The 6–10 day precipitation outlook also indicates above-normal rainfall across much of the region. This suggests an active pattern, with multiple weather systems capable of producing repeated rounds of rain rather than a single prolonged event.

With warm air in place, rain will be the dominant precipitation type, and no winter weather impacts are expected. Periods of moderate rainfall may lead to brief ponding on roadways, particularly in urban and low-lying areas along the Interstate 10 corridor.

The Climate Prediction Center emphasizes that the outlook highlights overall trends, not specific storm timing. Individual systems may still vary in strength and track, but the broader signal supports unsettled conditions.

For commuters, port operations, and outdoor workers, the pattern may bring wet roads, reduced visibility, and occasional travel delays, especially during heavier showers or thunderstorms embedded within rain bands.

Residents along the Gulf Coast are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts from the National Weather Service as the Jan. 7–11 period approaches and confidence in timing and impacts increases.
