Lake Charles, LA – Marine conditions along the Gulf Coast from High Island, TX to the Lower Atchafalaya River, LA are expected to deteriorate heading into the weekend, with boaters and coastal residents urged to use caution.
According to the National Weather Service Lake Charles, seas will rise to 3–6 feet by Friday and Saturday, with winds out of the east-northeast at 15–25 knots. Tides are projected to run about one foot above normal Saturday. Rain chances will increase steadily, with a 90% likelihood of showers and thunderstorms by Saturday.
By Sunday, forecasters say scattered storms will move inland across southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas as an upper disturbance develops. Rain chances will range from 30–70% Sunday, with the highest risks near coastal waters and the Atchafalaya Basin.
Daily highs across the region, including Beaumont, Lafayette, and Lake Charles, are expected to stay in the upper 80s to near 90 through early next week. Forecasters warn that while daytime temperatures will remain very warm, storm activity could bring localized flooding and higher seas, especially near thunderstorms.
Mariners are advised that winds and seas will be stronger in and near storms. Coastal residents should monitor tide levels and be prepared for possible impacts to low-lying areas this weekend into early next week.
