HOUSTON, Texas – Residents across Southeast Texas should brace for extreme heat Wednesday as heat index values climb into the 103–108°F range, according to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms, most likely inland, may offer short-lived relief.
According to the agency, temperatures will peak in the low to mid-90s, but oppressive humidity will make it feel much hotter, with the highest heat index values expected between 3 and 6 p.m. The most dangerous conditions will be felt in Houston, Katy, League City, and Bay City, where prolonged outdoor exposure could lead to heat illness.
Officials urge residents to limit strenuous outdoor activities to early morning or evening hours, wear light clothing, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces. Staying hydrated is essential, and drivers are reminded never to leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.
Scattered thunderstorms may develop inland during the afternoon, especially in the Brazos Valley and Piney Woods regions, bringing localized heavy rain and brief gusty winds.
Heat advisories remain in effect through Wednesday evening, and more alerts could follow if high temperatures persist into late week.
