Shreveport, Louisiana – The calm in the Gulf may not last long—Louisiana is entering the most dangerous stretch of hurricane season, with storm activity expected to rapidly climb through mid-September.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the 2025 outlook calls for 13 to 18 named storms, including up to nine hurricanes and as many as five major systems packing winds over 111 mph. Although the tropics have seen a brief pause, forecasters say this is typical ahead of a sharp spike in activity.

Historical data shows that the first two weeks of September account for the highest concentration of hurricane and tropical storm activity in the Atlantic basin. Communities across Louisiana—including Shreveport, Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans—are urged to remain alert and prepare for potential impacts ranging from inland flooding to damaging winds.

Officials recommend reviewing evacuation plans, charging electronics, and staying connected to official alerts from the National Hurricane Center and local emergency services. Flooding, tornadoes, and wind damage can all occur far outside a storm’s forecast cone.

With the season’s peak just weeks away, residents are advised to monitor updates daily and prepare for possible warnings with little notice.
