Guatemalan Man Found Dead from Exposure in Michigan, Identity Still Unknown

Battle Creek, MI – A man found dead in a remote area of Calhoun County in February remains unidentified, and authorities are asking for the public’s help in confirming his identity.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 8000 block of 6 Mile Road on February 15 following a report of a deceased person. Investigators determined the man had died from exposure. Deputies are still working to positively identify him.

Fingerprint records indicate the man had previously been in Georgia in December 2022, using the name Missla Lopez. He was reportedly accompanied by two individuals, Orlando Lopez and Rolando Sanchez. Authorities believe Orlando Lopez may be the deceased’s brother. In February 2025, the man had also been admitted to a medical facility in Kalamazoo under the name Misael Sanchez.

The individual is believed to be from Guatemala and had a distinctive feature: silver caps on both front teeth, each marked with a star.
