Guam – Relentless downpours are drenching the Marianas, with flash flooding possible across Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan as a Flood Watch remains in effect through late Saturday night. Roads, rivers, and urban areas are all at risk as tropical rains refuse to let up.

According to the National Weather Service in Tiyan, a tropical disturbance known as Invest 98W and a trailing monsoon surge are combining to dump 6 to 12 inches of rain—potentially even more in isolated spots—across the islands through Saturday night. Residents in flood-prone neighborhoods, especially along the Hagatna and Ylig Rivers, are urged to remain alert for rapidly rising waters.

High water may cut off low-lying roads, including Route 4 in Yona and several village streets in Dededo and Tamuning. Poor drainage in urban centers could quickly lead to dangerous ponding. Power outages and hazardous travel are possible if storms intensify.

Emergency officials recommend preparing now by keeping emergency kits ready, avoiding flooded roadways, and monitoring weather updates. If you live in an area with a history of flooding, consider relocating to higher ground before conditions worsen.

Heavy rain is expected to continue off and on into Saturday night. Stay tuned for further advisories, as Flood Warnings may be issued if conditions deteriorate.
