Guadalupe Mountains, TX – Travel through the Guadalupe Mountains could become dangerous overnight as powerful wind gusts up to 60 mph develop, posing a serious risk to drivers by early Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa, a High Wind Warning takes effect at midnight MDT (1 a.m. CDT) Saturday and continues through early Saturday afternoon. Sustained northeast winds of 35 to 45 mph will combine with stronger gusts, especially at elevations above 7,000 feet.

The most significant impacts will be across Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Pine Springs, and into southeast New Mexico near Queen. High-profile vehicles traveling along U.S. Route 62/180 and surrounding mountain roads may experience dangerous crosswinds, particularly during the early morning hours.

Loose outdoor objects could be blown around, and visibility may be briefly reduced by dust in exposed areas. The strongest winds are expected along ridgelines and exposed passes.

Drivers are urged to delay travel through mountain routes, secure outdoor items, and remain alert for sudden gusts. The warning remains in effect through Saturday afternoon, with additional advisories possible if winds intensify.
