Morris, IL – A routine overnight traffic stop in Morris early Wednesday led to a multi-agency pursuit and the arrest of a 29-year-old Illinois parolee, according to police.

According to the Morris Police Department, an officer conducted a traffic stop around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday on Division Street near the Interstate 80 eastbound entrance ramp after observing a moving violation. The vehicle was reportedly registered to an address on West Main Street in Morris.

Police say the driver, a 29-year-old man from Joliet, was discovered to be on parole with the Illinois Department of Corrections for three prior domestic battery convictions. While speaking with the officer, the driver allegedly attempted to flee the stop, prompting the backup officer on scene to deploy a stop-stick device that disabled the vehicle’s rear tire.

According to police, the suspect continued driving until coming to a stop at the BP gas station in Minooka, where officers from Morris Police, Channahon Police, Minooka Police, and the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office took him into custody.

During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered a loaded 9-millimeter handgun and an open bottle of alcohol, police said.

The driver was charged with Aggravated Fleeing/Eluding, Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and several additional traffic offenses. The Illinois Department of Corrections has reportedly issued a parole violation warrant in connection with the arrest.

He was transported to the Grundy County Jail.
