Morris, IL – A tragic incident shut down part of Interstate 80 in Morris Tuesday morning after a juvenile reportedly jumped from an overpass and was struck by a passing semi-truck, authorities said.
Emergency crews were called shortly after 8:15 a.m. to the westbound lanes of I-80, just past the Lisbon Road overpass west of Route 47. Responders found the juvenile on top of the semi trailer, and the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Illinois State Police, the section of I-80 westbound was closed for several hours while troopers investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident. The juvenile’s name and age have not yet been released pending notification of family.
Traffic was diverted for much of the morning as reconstruction units and local responders assisted with clearing the scene. All lanes have since reopened.
Authorities have not released additional details about what led up to the incident.
