According to the Morris Police Department, officers responded at approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday , December 25, to a reported burglary at Tony’s Pit Stop, located at 630 Bedford Road in Morris, Grundy County. While on scene, officers determined that a customer’s vehicle had been stolen from the property during the incident.

Police say the stolen vehicle was later located in Seneca, with assistance from Grundy County Sheriff’s Deputies, who used eyewitness information and Flock Safety camera systems to track the car.

Further investigation led authorities to arrest Matthew W. Jeffries, 43, of Morris, in connection with the case. Jeffries was allegedly found in possession of the stolen vehicle and has been charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Motor Vehicle Theft, according to police.

Officials said Jeffries was processed and released pending a future court date under SAFE-T Act guidelines, which allow certain defendants to be released while awaiting court proceedings.
