Morris, IL – A Morris man was taken into custody Saturday evening after allegedly attempting to enter a vehicle occupied by a woman and her 11-year-old daughter on Liberty Street.

According to the Morris Police Department, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of Liberty Street. Officers responded after a female adult and her child reported seeing a man, later identified as 37-year-old Christopher Stassin, crouching beside their parked vehicle. Stassin allegedly moved toward the vehicle in a crouched position and reportedly stared at the occupants through the glass before allegedly trying to open the doors, which were locked.

Authorities stated the woman was able to safely exit the vehicle with help from nearby family members, who then chased Stassin from the scene. The group provided Stassin’s location to officers upon their arrival. Police initially placed Stassin in custody for disorderly conduct, but, due to the alleged threat posed to the public, Morris police contacted the Grundy County State’s Attorney’s Office. The office approved charges for attempted aggravated kidnapping.

Stassin was subsequently transported to the Grundy County Jail, where he is being held on charges of Aggravated Attempted Kidnapping and Disorderly Conduct, according to the Morris Police Department.

No injuries were reported in the incident. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may be released as the case progresses.
