Morris, IL – Festivalgoers in downtown Morris are seeing a noticeable increase in police patrols this Saturday evening as law enforcement takes extra precautions at the Grundy County Corn Festival.
According to joint statements from the Morris Police Department, Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, and the Corn Festival Committee, officers have boosted their presence across the festival grounds. While officials stressed there is no known threat to public safety, the action is being described as a proactive safeguard.
The advisory noted that the decision came “out of an abundance of caution,” but it did not provide specifics on what prompted the heightened visibility. That has left some attendees curious about the timing of the move as crowds pack into downtown for parades, concerts, and Saturday night activities.
Police say the goal is to ensure a secure and enjoyable environment for everyone. Attendees can expect to see more foot patrols and squad cars near high-traffic areas throughout the evening.
“We appreciate the public’s cooperation and understanding as officers work to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all,” officials said in a joint statement.
The Corn Festival, one of Grundy County’s most popular events, continues through the weekend in downtown Morris.
