Morris, IL – Holiday travel is ramping up across Grundy County today as law enforcement launches a heightened DUI and seatbelt enforcement effort aimed at preventing impaired driving crashes during the busiest time of year.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, deputies will take part in statewide traffic safety campaigns from Friday, December 12, through Sunday, January 5, focusing on impaired driving, drugged driving, and seatbelt compliance.

The enforcement includes participation in “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives, which are supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through the state’s “It’s Not a Game” outreach program.

Officials say the goal is to reduce serious and fatal crashes during the holiday season, when impaired driving incidents historically increase.

“This season let’s make safety our shared priority,” said Deputy Chief Paul Clampitt. “If you plan to drink or use impairing substances, plan ahead for a sober ride home and always wear your seat belt. Driving impaired isn’t just dangerous; it’s unacceptable. We’ll be out in full force, and no excuses will be accepted.”

The sheriff’s office is also urging residents to take an active role in preventing impaired driving by planning transportation ahead of time, reporting suspected impaired drivers to the Grundy County ETSB 911 Center, and stepping in when a friend should not be behind the wheel.

Motorists should expect increased patrols throughout Grundy County, particularly during nights, weekends, and holiday travel periods.
