Groveton, N.H. – A man in crisis was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after a brief standoff on Main Street that prompted a downtown containment and a precautionary school lockdown.
According to New Hampshire State Police, troopers assigned to the Troop F barracks responded around 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, to a request for a welfare check at a home in Groveton. Reports indicated the man was allegedly breaking the home’s glass windows and throwing objects outside.
When troopers arrived, the man allegedly barricaded himself inside the residence. Due to concerns for his well-being and public safety, authorities contained the surrounding area and requested additional crisis-trained personnel.
Staff at nearby Groveton Elementary School placed the facility in lockdown as a precaution during the response.
After a period of negotiations, the man complied with police commands, exited the home, and was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Authorities confirmed no injuries were reported.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department and Groveton Ambulance.
