Greenville, SC – A warm and mostly dry day is expected across the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia, but forecasters warn that low humidity and light winds may create elevated fire danger conditions this afternoon and evening. Temperatures will rise above seasonal averages across much of the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Greenville–Spartanburg, widespread sunshine and dry air will push humidity values below 25 percent in several areas, especially across the foothills and Piedmont of North Carolina, the Upstate of South Carolina, and portions of northeast Georgia. These conditions, paired with light winds, significantly increase the potential for rapid fire spread should any fires begin.

While the day will remain dry, NWS forecasters note a small chance of isolated showers developing over the North Carolina mountains overnight tonight. However, these will be limited in coverage and are not expected to provide meaningful moisture.

High temperatures today will range from the upper 60s to mid-70s across South Carolina and Georgia, with cooler highs in the upper 50s to 60s in the mountains of western North Carolina. Sunshine and warm air will persist regionwide through the afternoon.

Residents in fire-prone or heavily forested areas are urged to avoid outdoor burning, properly discard smoking materials, and remain alert to changing local fire conditions. Even brief periods of low humidity can allow fires to grow quickly, especially where vegetation remains dry.

Officials will continue monitoring humidity trends throughout the day and may update advisories if conditions worsen.
