Greenville, South Carolina – Jackets may be optional for much of the upcoming week as unseasonably warm air settles across the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia, pushing daytime highs well above typical January levels and keeping rain chances low through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, temperatures will trend warmer than normal beginning Sunday and peak by the middle of the week. Highs are expected to run about 10 to 15 degrees above average for early January, with many communities climbing into the upper 50s and 60s. Overnight lows will also remain mild, limiting the risk of frost or freezing conditions across most of the region.

In South Carolina, cities including Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and Greenwood will see a steady warming trend, with midweek highs approaching the upper 60s. Western North Carolina locations such as Asheville and Hendersonville will also warm significantly, though mountain areas will remain slightly cooler. Northeast Georgia communities including Toccoa and Hartwell can expect similar mild conditions.

Dry weather will dominate the pattern, offering favorable conditions for travel, outdoor work, and early-week activities. The lack of rain may also allow soils to dry further, which could be a concern for fire danger in typically dry winter conditions.

This stretch of warmth is expected to hold until a cold front approaches late in the week, which could bring increased rain chances and a return to more seasonable temperatures. Residents are encouraged to stay updated as forecast details become clearer closer to the end of the week.
