GREENVILLE, S.C. – Frost glistened on rooftops and windshields across the Upstate early Tuesday, as calm air and clear skies delivered the region’s coldest start of the fall so far. The chill bites sharply this morning, with temperatures near 28°F in rural valleys and low 30s across Spartanburg and Greenville — enough to mark an official freeze for much of the area.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville–Spartanburg, a Freeze Warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. for portions of northeast Georgia, western North Carolina, and Upstate South Carolina. The cold snap could kill sensitive vegetation and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to cover plants, drain hoses, and ensure pets have warm shelter before heading out.

By late morning, sunshine quickly breaks through the chill, pushing highs toward the mid-40s under a bright, dry sky — perfect weather for Veterans Day events across the Carolinas. Winds will stay light, and conditions remain calm through this evening, setting up another cold but slightly milder night.

Starting Wednesday, a steady warming trend kicks in. Afternoon highs will reach the low 60s, then climb to the mid-70s by Friday and Saturday — a welcome shift for early holiday decorators and fall travelers. Clear skies and dry air continue through the weekend, offering ideal weather for outdoor plans, leaf cleanup, and late-season yardwork.

For now, the freeze marks the end of the growing season across most of the Upstate. After this frosty reminder, winter may tease, but autumn isn’t finished yet.
