Spartanburg, S.C. – A sunny start to Labor Day weekend in Upstate South Carolina may give way to dangerous storms by Sunday. Drivers along I-85 and I-26 should plan ahead, as downpours could hit during peak travel times.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, Saturday will stay mostly sunny with highs near 84 degrees. The first threat of showers arrives late Sunday, with a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Heavy rainfall could reduce visibility on major highways, and outdoor holiday events may face disruptions.

Friday night and Saturday bring calm, pleasant conditions with lows in the 60s, ideal for evening plans. But storm chances rise into Sunday night, carrying risks of lightning and wet roads. Local emergency officials advise keeping phones charged and avoiding travel during storms, especially with holiday congestion expected.

Labor Day itself should trend partly sunny with highs near 76. Clouds build again Monday and Tuesday, keeping conditions unsettled but cooler. While no widespread flooding is forecast, pop-up storms could create isolated hazards, especially in low-lying areas.

The storm window will close by midweek, with Wednesday and Thursday looking warm and mostly sunny again. More advisories may follow if storm chances increase.
