Greenville, SC – The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has continued a Freeze Watch from late Friday night through Saturday morning, warning of sub-freezing temperatures near 33°F across northeast Georgia, the western Carolinas, and the Upstate region.

According to the NWS, clear skies and calm winds will allow temperatures to drop quickly overnight, leading to the potential for a first freeze of the season in many locations. Counties affected include Catawba, Cleveland, Lincoln, Alexander, Rutherford, and Polk in North Carolina, Oconee and Pickens in South Carolina, and Habersham County in Georgia.

Forecasters caution that the cold could kill or damage crops and sensitive plants, and unprotected outdoor plumbing may be at risk of freezing. Residents are encouraged to cover tender vegetation, drain sprinkler systems, and disconnect garden hoses ahead of the overnight chill.

This early-season freeze marks the start of November’s cooler weather pattern across the Appalachian foothills and Piedmont, with temperatures rebounding slightly later this weekend.
