Greenville-Spartanburg: Light Snow and Ice Expected Along and North of I-40

GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG, SC – The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg says snow and ice accumulations are still expected tonight into Friday morning across portions of the western Carolinas, with slightly higher totals now possible.

According to the latest update issued at 1:35 p.m. Thursday, the Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday, covering areas mainly along and north of I-40 in the northwest Piedmont and mountain foothills.

  • Snow/sleet totals up to 1.5 inches and ice accretion up to 0.2 inches in the higher elevations.
  • Lighter accumulations (up to 0.5”) are expected across lower elevations.
  • South of I-40, mainly cold rain is anticipated.

  • Hazardous road conditions may develop overnight and impact the Friday morning commute.
  • Tree limbs and power lines could accumulate enough ice to cause isolated power outages.
