Greenville, SC – Residents across the western Carolinas should prepare for scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout Friday, with the potential for heavy downpours continuing into the night.

According to the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg, temperatures will remain near-normal for late September, reaching the upper 70s to low 80s across much of North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. Rain chances will stay elevated, with probabilities ranging from 50% to 70% depending on location.

Forecasters warn that localized flash flooding is possible where repeated storms, known as “training,” develop over the same areas. Communities from Greenville and Spartanburg, SC, to Charlotte, NC, could see slower commutes, slick roads, and ponding in low-lying areas Friday evening.

Shower and thunderstorm activity is expected to linger into early Saturday morning before gradually tapering off. The National Weather Service advises residents to remain alert for changing conditions, especially in areas prone to flooding.

Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time and avoid driving through flooded roads. Residents are also encouraged to monitor local forecasts and weather alerts through the evening.
