Greenville, South Carolina – Cold mornings are still gripping the Upstate and western North Carolina, with near-freezing temperatures creating hazards for early commuters and sensitive plants despite a modest daytime warm-up.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, highs today will reach the upper 40s to low 50s across much of the region, including Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson. While this marks a slight improvement, temperatures remain 10 to 15 degrees below seasonal averages.

In the North Carolina mountains, including Asheville and Boone, highs will struggle in the 40s, with even cooler conditions at higher elevations. Across the I-85 corridor, dry conditions dominate, but shaded roads and bridges could still see isolated slick spots early in the morning.

Tonight brings another round of cold conditions, with lows dropping to around 30°F in Asheville, 32°F in Hickory, and mid-30s across Greenville and Spartanburg. These temperatures could lead to patchy frost and a renewed risk of black ice in colder pockets before sunrise Thursday.

Residents should protect sensitive vegetation, cover outdoor plants, and remain cautious on early morning drives. While gradual warming continues into late week, below-normal temperatures and chilly nights will persist through Thursday morning, with additional updates possible if frost advisories are issued.
