Greenville, SC – Warm and dry conditions are expected across the Upstate on Tuesday, creating an increased risk for wildfires before colder temperatures settle in overnight.
According to the National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg, mostly sunny skies and above-normal afternoon temperatures will dominate the region Tuesday. Highs are forecast to reach the low to mid-50s, providing a mild feel compared to recent days.
While conditions will be pleasant, forecasters warn that fire danger will increase, particularly across northeast Georgia and nearby areas. Relative humidity values are expected to drop below 25 percent, creating favorable conditions for wildfires to spread. The elevated fire danger is expected from 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and to properly discard smoking materials. Even small sparks could quickly ignite dry vegetation under these conditions.
As the day ends, conditions will change quickly. Clouds are expected to gradually increase Tuesday evening, becoming mostly cloudy overnight. Colder air will settle into the region, with overnight lows dropping into the upper 20s and low 30s across much of the Upstate.
Despite the colder night, dry conditions are expected to continue, with no precipitation in the forecast. Winds will remain relatively light, though dry air will persist into the evening hours.
The National Weather Service advises residents to stay weather-aware, follow local fire safety guidance, and monitor updates in case fire danger advisories are expanded.
