GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Upstate and western North Carolina will enjoy another mild and breezy fall day Friday before a weekend cold front brings cooler air and scattered showers. The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg reports that highs will reach the upper 60s to low 70s under partly sunny skies, with gusty southwest winds up to 20 mph during the afternoon.

According to the NWS, clouds will thicken from the west late in the day as a front approaches from the Tennessee Valley. The warm and dry conditions will hold through sunset, but increasing moisture could lead to isolated light showers overnight, mainly in the mountains. Breezy conditions will continue into early Saturday before winds shift north behind the front.

Forecasters say Friday’s warmth marks the end of the current stretch of unseasonably mild weather. Temperatures will tumble this weekend, with Saturday highs 10 to 15 degrees cooler across the Carolinas and northeast Georgia. Despite the cooldown, no significant rain or storm risk is expected.

Residents are encouraged to secure lightweight outdoor items and use caution on elevated roads where gusty crosswinds could affect travel. Clear, crisp weather returns Sunday with highs in the 50s and lows dipping into the 30s.
