Greenville, S.C. – Residents across the Carolinas are getting their first real taste of fall this week as a strong cold front ushers in the driest air the region has seen since late spring. Dewpoints are expected to fall into the 40s and 50s through Thursday, creating crisp mornings and more comfortable afternoons across South Carolina, North Carolina, and northeast Georgia.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, dewpoints began dropping late Monday and will hold in the comfortable range for several days. Cities like Greenville, Spartanburg, and Asheville could see dewpoints in the low 50s by midweek, while Charlotte and Rock Hill are expected to stay in the upper 50s. The drier air will make conditions feel cooler even as afternoon highs climb into the 80s.

The shift is a welcome break for residents who have endured a muggy stretch of August. Travelers and outdoor workers should find conditions more tolerable, with heat index values no longer running above actual temperatures. The NWS recommends residents take advantage of the stretch for outdoor activities, but note that cooler nights could mean an earlier-than-usual chill in the morning hours.

The dry pattern is expected to hold through at least Thursday before moisture begins to return late week.
