Greenville, S.C. – Summerlike heat is making a comeback across the Carolinas and northeast Georgia today, ending nearly two weeks of below-normal temperatures. Highs will surge into the upper 80s and low 90s in much of Upstate South Carolina, with humidity pushing conditions into an even stickier range.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, scattered showers and storms may develop late this afternoon, particularly in the North Carolina mountains. Most areas will stay dry today, but the storm risk grows Saturday as a cold front approaches the region.

In Greenville and Anderson, highs will reach 90, while Charlotte could top out near 91 under partly sunny skies. Mountain towns such as Franklin and Newland may see pop-up thunderstorms by evening, with localized downpours and gusty winds possible.

Drivers should be alert for sudden heavy rain along I-26 and I-40 late Saturday as storm chances expand. Outdoor plans this weekend may need adjustments, especially in higher elevations where storms will be more frequent.

Relief is on the way: cooler, less humid air returns by early next week, with highs settling back near seasonal norms.
