GREENVILLE, S.C. – A soaking fall rain is moving across the western Carolinas this evening, delivering widespread totals of one to two inches by early Thursday, with the heaviest rain expected along the Blue Ridge Escarpment and foothill communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, rainfall spreading in from the southwest will continue through the overnight hours before tapering off around daybreak Thursday. The most persistent rain will fall along the I-26 corridor from Brevard to Hendersonville and northeast through Marion and Hickory, where localized higher amounts are possible.
Roads across the Upstate and western North Carolina will become slick overnight, particularly near mountain passes and low-lying areas. Minor ponding and reduced visibility could affect early Thursday travel on I-85, I-40, and I-26.
Forecasters expect showers to linger along the North Carolina–Tennessee border through Thursday afternoon as cooler, drier air filters in. Temperatures will remain seasonably mild, with daytime highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s and lows in the 40s.
Residents are encouraged to slow down on wet roads and check drainage around homes as beneficial rainfall continues to ease dry fall conditions across the region. Skies will gradually clear Thursday night, leading to a drier, cooler weekend ahead.
