Greenville, South Carolina – Widespread rain is expected to continue across the Greenville area throughout Saturday, with periods of heavier rainfall and a chance for isolated thunderstorms developing this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg.

Forecasters say showers will remain ongoing for much of the day Saturday, with rainfall totals generally ranging from 1 to 2 inches across the Upstate by Sunday. The heaviest rain is expected during the daytime hours Saturday, with precipitation continuing into Saturday night and tapering off on Sunday.

The National Weather Service noted that isolated nuisance flooding is possible, particularly west of Interstate 26, where rainfall rates may briefly exceed drainage capacity. Low-lying areas, poor drainage locations, and urban roadways are most susceptible to water buildup.

In addition to steady rain, a few embedded thunderstorms may mix in Saturday afternoon. While widespread severe weather is not expected, officials caution that isolated storms could produce gusty winds, especially during heavier downpours.

Rainfall probability across Greenville is near 90 to 100 percent through Saturday evening, decreasing gradually overnight. Cloudy and wet conditions may also reduce visibility during periods of heavier rain, impacting afternoon and evening travel.

For commuters, students, and outdoor workers, the primary impacts will be wet roads, ponding of water, and occasional downpours that could slow traffic. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and avoid driving through flooded roadways.

Conditions are expected to slowly improve on Sunday as rain coverage becomes more scattered. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates and any additional advisories at weather.gov/gsp as the system moves through the Carolinas.
