Greenville, NC – The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Martin, Pitt, and Washington Counties, in effect from 2 p.m. Monday to midnight tonight, warning of light snow and potential icy road conditions overnight.

According to the NWS, total snow accumulations will generally remain under one inch, but even a light coating could make roads slick during the Monday evening commute. Temperatures are expected to plummet into the 20s overnight, raising the risk of black ice on bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces by Tuesday morning.

The advisory includes communities such as Greenville, Williamston, Plymouth, and Farmville. Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use extra caution while traveling this evening and early Tuesday.

Forecasters say while snowfall will taper off by midnight, lingering moisture and subfreezing temperatures could lead to hazardous road conditions into the early morning hours.
