Greenville, NC – Fall officially begins Monday, but residents across eastern North Carolina will continue to face warm, muggy conditions throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City.

According to forecasters, high temperatures will stay in the low to upper 80s through the weekend, with Greenville expected to reach 89 degrees on Tuesday before a gradual cooling trend late week. Shower and thunderstorm chances increase starting Thursday, with scattered storms likely into Saturday and Sunday.

For coastal communities, the bigger concern will be the ocean. The National Weather Service warns that distant Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle will send swells toward the North Carolina coast, increasing the risk of dangerous rip currents through at least Tuesday. Beachgoers are urged to use caution and follow posted warnings if entering the water.

The unsettled weather pattern is expected to return by late week, with higher humidity fueling storms across inland and coastal counties. Friday currently shows the highest rain potential at 50 percent, but forecasters caution that conditions may shift as the system evolves.

Residents planning outdoor activities or beach trips should monitor daily forecasts and stay alert to updated advisories.
